Fortnite: Rifts Are Opening And You Can Watch Them, Here’s How | Timed Events Guide

July 5, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Fortnite’s map is changing. Here’s how you can watch rifts destroy the map in-person and daily.

The public rocket launch event has come and gone in Fortnite, but before the next season can begin, there’s still plenty of interesting stuff to see. With the sky cracked, multiple smaller rifts have opened up all over the map, sucking in signs and causing destruction daily. You can actually check out these mini-limited events for yourself.

The rifts hint at changes to the map — cracks in the space-time continuum have opened up in the Lonely Lodge, Anarchy Acres, and Tomato Town. The rifts are on the move, too. The Lonely Lodge rift moved up to the NOMS sign over in Retail Row. The rifts just love eating signs, but there’s no way to know exactly what will come in the next season. There might be multiple big changes to the map, similar to the meteorite-induced inclusion of Dusty Divot in the center of the Season 4 map.

Season 5 officially begins on July 12th. Check out these limited events now, before it’s too late!

To checkout a rift, you just need to login at the right time. Actually finding the rifts can be tricky — sometimes they stick to the same spot, but sometimes they’ll move somewhere new. The rifts eat signs, and you can watch it happen in real-time. The event is happening every day (up until July 12th, when Season 5 begins) so you don’t have much time.

And yes, you can check these events out in Fortnite’s Playground Mode. No need to worry about PVP in there.

So, what does this mean for Fortnite? In Season 4, a meteorite destroyed Dusty Depot, turning it into Dusty Divot — a massive crater in the center of the map. The rifts are eating signs in Lonely Lodge, Tomato Town, and Retail Row, and now the Durr Burger sign is in danger. Are all of these areas going to get a facelift? It’s hard to say, but you can bet on a new map facelift when Season 5 officially kicks off.
