There are scant details so far on this exciting piece of news, but long suffering fans of the MOTHER series, rejoice! This year, 1994's SNES classic EarthBound will finally see a Virtual Console release, on Wii U in Europe and North America. The announcement was made this morning during the Nintendo Direct conference. A firm release date is expected at a later time.
It will be interesting to see if Nintendo is trying to test the waters and see if the EarthBound fan base is still solid enough for a series reboot or additional Virtual Console releases. As many fans know, the original game and the third, a 2006 GameBoy title, never saw official release in North America. While they can be played from ROMs online, it would be nice to see official support from Nintendo (and thus, assauge my own gamer guilt). Will you be purchasing EarthBound on the Wii U's Virtual Console?
