Japanese gaming sites like 4Gamer are reporting that Nintendo has announced six new figures for Pokemon Rumble U. As we discovered back in March, Pokemon Rumble U is a Skylanders-style game in which character data is stored in figurines. These figurines will sit on the near-field communication (NFC) square on the bottom left of the Wii U GamePad, which will transfer their data into the game.
While Nintendo could likely make a fortune if it took this idea to the main series of Pokemon games, with one figurine for each of the 150 (or however many there are now) creatures, Pokemon Rumble U has a different story than that of the Pokemon Master-to-be. As Serebii reported back in March, the story is that “the toy Pokémon have been lost from the shop after falling in the river. The task is to get back to the Toy Shop, while facing various bosses such as Chandelure”.
Naturally, the first figurine for the game is Pikachu. This latest news also brings us Eevee, Mewto, Croagunk, Zoroark, Litwick, and Genesect. The figures are cute and colourful but polygonal to match the aesthetic of the Rumble games.
Unfortunately, no one seems to be saying anything about a Western release of the game, but given the popularity of Skylanders on this side of the globe we can probably expect to see an it happen at some point in the future. Would you play this game with its little figurines? Would you want to catch them all?
