Yesterday, Sony gave us a launch date for Puppeteer and a new trailer that revealed some of the backstory. Today, we have some videos that demonstrate the head-switching mechanic that protagonist Kutaro has at its disposal since the evil Moon Bear King took his own. Each head gives Kutaro different abilities, and these two videos show off what those abilities are for the Knight Head and the Ninja Head.
The Knight Head has an attached shield, which apparently still bears the power of the Moon Goddess' knight, who died a tragic death. The shield provides a protective layer: Kutaro can use it to fend off incoming obstacles and attacks. It also has a reflective surface, and can be used to shine incoming beams of light into the faces of enemies.
The Ninja Head gives Kutaro the ability to throw bombs, which doesn't sound like a particularly ninja thing to do but then “Bomb Thrower Head” doesn't quite have the same ring to it. Kutaro can use these bombs to destroy the scenery, to trigger switches, or to hurt enemies. At one point in the video we see Kutaro throw a bomb at an enemy who then juggles it from hand to hand, and the sound of audience laughter, which is a nice touch.
As we learned yesterday, Puppeteer will arrive on September 30. It is currently only due to come to the PlayStation 3, though it'd be a nice title to add to the collection of launch titles for the PlayStation 4.
