Glitch Art and Music Will be Preserved Thanks to Indiegogo Campaigns

January 21, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

The two campaigns raised way over their goals

The Art of Glitch, described as “A book to preserve the art and memories behind the wonderfully whimsical game, Glitch”, came to the end of its Indiegogo campaign on Saturday with nearly seven times as much money as the team set out to raise. The goal was to raise $17,000, and the campaign has ended with a total of $114,090.

The hardcover book will include full-page images of various creatures and locations from the game, including “iterative sketches and artboards along with alternate and rejected concepts never before seen”. The art reflects the unique and often strange design of the now-retired free-to-play web-based MMO.

Glitch was shut down at the end of last year, with the creators at Tiny Speck citing an audience that wasn't “large enough to sustain itself”. Given the game's distinctive look this art book, which according to the Indiegogo campaign will be available in March, is a fitting way to memorialise it.

Another Indiegogo campaign related to the game ended on the 7th of January, with $56,939 raised (much more than the goal of $8,000) to “collect, catalog, remix” and “remaster” the music from Glitch and preserve it. For that campaign, 116 people have handed over $227 for a “Real-Life Crab Musicblock”, a white oak box with a music box inside that will play the main theme from a paper strip with the purchaser's in-game avatar printed on it, proving that while there may not have been enough players to keep the game going those who did stick with it were dedicated.
