After months, actually years, of practically ignoring the existence of Mega Man, Capcom seems to have turned a corner on their once former mascot (before Ryu and other parties showed up, who all stole a bit of the spotlight that he helped to create). Then again, turning 25 years old this yearly probably played a significant part.
Capcom Unity has revealed that, on the Xbox Live Marketplace, in the Avatar Store, are duds to help your virtual self look like Mega Man. One can nab his helmet for 160 MS points, which is $2, or go deck yourself out completely for 320 MS points, which is $4. There's also his Mega Buster, but that's sold separately, for $4 as well.
Yes, it costs you a full eight dollars to fully resemble Mega Man. At least the Guts Man, Ice Man, and Bomb Man duds are just four bucks a pop. Sadly, there is no attire for Cut Man, arguably the coolest of the original Robot Masters.
Opinions of this latest effort to cash in on Mega Man's 25th birthday is sharply divided, naturally. While some thing it's all in good fun, others feel it is yet another slap in the face of the character's loyal fan base.
First they simply put their name on a fan created project, the previously reported Street Fighter X Mega Man, and now this. Instead of spending the time and resources on creating a brand new Mega Man game, which is what people have been clamoring for, ad nausea.
Will the fan base ever get what they truly want? At this point, it's simply impossible to tell.
