GameTron 1000 Seeks £90,000 on Kickstarter to Create a Game that Randomly Generates Itself

December 11, 2012 by Jordan Erica Webber

Combine genres, characters, collectables, objectives and more to create a random mini-game every time

A new and interesting game idea has appeared on Kickstarter. Promising a game that “randomly generates itself”, Mojo Bones wants to raise £90,000 ($144,684 at today's exchange rate) to fund its GameTron 1000. The game, to be released on iOS, Android, and PC, will present players with an interface that looks a lot like a fruit machine, with each reel representing a different feature of the game: environments, characters, enemies, objectives, time limit, etc. You press a button, the reels spin, and you end up with a unique combination of features that somehow manages to form a mini-game.

It's a clever idea, especially for the iOS and Android platforms. After all, mobile gaming is well suited to short bursts, and the variety of mini-games that could come out of the GameTron 1000 might take the place of what would normally be a regular search for something new and cheap to download.

Mojo Bones is promising some pretty cool features, too. Backers who pledge more than £50 (will be able to submit their own creations to be added to the game, and if you happen to randomly create a game that you really like, you can save it to your in-game library and share it with your friends.

Intrigued by the concept of a randomly generated game? You might also want to check out Cloudberry Kingdom, the upcoming procedurally generated platformer from Pwnee Studios.
