There’s a little known game by the name of Ether that appears to be in the same vein as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Dear Esther, without the horror elements of the former or the non-interactivity of the latter.
Described as the first entry in a two part first person adventure game with elements of science fiction, Ether delves into the human psyche that’s set within the broken mind of a woman named Jean—whom the player, a “restorer”, must learn to comprehend and possibly fix. Ether intends to offer numerous puzzles and choices for the player to make along the way, with multiple endings and many secrets about both your identity and Jean’s. Think Psychonauts, but without the jumping puzzles.
“Ether One is the first half in a journey of haunting relationships and choices that are explored through carefully crafted game play and narrative in order to deliver an adventure game full of interaction and puzzles that will immerse you in the Ether world and story.”
The game is set for release in early 2013 on the PC and Mac. Thanks RPS.
