Sui Generis is an Open World RPG, and It Needs Your Help on Kickstarter

November 14, 2012 by Ian Miles Cheong

Sui Generis is described as "Grand Theft Auto meets Morrowind in an original open world RPG."

Games like Diablo and Titan Quest have always been satisfying for their kinetic action, which saw player characters bashing monsters into bloody little bits and flinging their lifeless bodies around with all sorts of magical spells and neat skills.

Sui Generis by Bare Mettle Entertainment takes the whole kinetic thing to the next level by offering a much more detailed physics engine that allows characters to react—realistically—to the environment. When a gigantic flail hits your character, it’ll be thrown back by the force of the impact and struggle to get back up. The effect, as you can see in the video, resembles drunk men fighting each other with swords—and what could be more fun than a drunken brawl?

Unlike the other action RPGs, Sui Generis is “not about running around killing hordes of enemies in order to collect experience points and numerous items.” Instead, the game is set to offer exploration as its main focus and involve the player in major events throughout the story.

Sui Generis

“The world is carefully designed to be believable and have a life of its own. It is not there to wait for you to go on quests, trigger events or make decisions. Events will take their course and may take a turn for the worse if you don't get involved,” reads the Kickstarter pitch. Kind of like Ultima, then.

“Much of the time combat situations will be occasional yet meaningful. Few opponents can be dismissed as trivial. Though there are powerful items, even an old rusty sword can be effective in the right hands. There are no levels, but there is a more natural progression system based on skills and thaumaturgic powers. There are no classes, but rather countless possible builds with diverse and interesting qualities.”

And a bit like The Witcher 2, from the sounds of it.

If you like the idea of playing an open world RPG with insane physics-based combat, just head on over to the Kickstarter page here.
