In July of 2010, Codemasters told Develop that they were working on three separate projects: DiRT 3, Operation Flashpoint: Red River, and GRID 2. While the first two of those games went on to see release last year, the third, GRID 2, has been missing in action ever since.
That long silence might be ending soon, if a report from Xbox 360 Acheivements is to be believed. During a tour of the company's UK headquarters, Codemasters director of communications Rich Eddy allegedly teased an impending reveal of the arcade racing sequel.
"Loads of people are asking where GRID 2 is, when that's coming back," Eddy said. "Well stayed tuned, you may not have to wait long to hear more about that."
The first GRID (Race Driver: GRID in Europe) was quite well received by critics and racing fans alike when it was released back in 2008. A follow-up has been long anticipated, but the franchise has taken a regular backseat to its more popular brother, DiRT.
If and when we do catch a glimpse of GRID 2, it will likely be running on Codemaster's proprietary EGO 2.0 engine, which powered Red River, DiRT 3, and F1 2011.
