There are few things quite as entertaining as a PR nightmare, especially when the PR rep on the other end is behaving like 15 year old child.
Ocean Marketing, representing the producers of the Avenger controller accessory, has suddenly found themselves at the forefront of a very public PR drama, brought on by one man asking about shipping dates.
Without getting too into the details (we won’t spoil the fun for you, it’s a great read,) an exchange between Kotaku reader Dave and Paul Christoforo, a PR rep from Ocean Marketing, got a little bit heated. Here’s just a small portion of what Christoforo has so eloquently sent Dave.
“You placed a pre order just like any software title the gets a date moved due to the tweaks and bugs not being worked out and GameStop or any other place holds your cash and im sure you don’t complain to activision or epic games so put on your big boy hat and wait it out like everyone else.”
“Son Im 38 I wwebsite as on the internet when you were a sperm in your daddys balls and before it was the internet, thanks for the welcome to message wurd up. Grow up you look like a complete child bro. I Don’t have my controller so im gonna cry to the world … Really ?? Hey take that free time and do something more productive.”
“You just got told bitch … welcome to the real internet check kotaku in 2 weeks when they are reviewing free PS3 Avengers we send them as well as G4 and all the other majors hell yeah , don’t forget to check Amazon, gamestop.com, play n trade , Myers , Frys and a ton of other local stores coming your way you think you speak for billions son your just a kid you speak for yourself no one cares what you think that’s why were growing and moving 20-50 thousand controllers a month.”
Remember, this isn’t some kid on XBL trash talking someone – this is a public relations rep for a marketing company. Apart from his complete lack of maturity, his grammar raises some interesting questions as well: Is he actually sane? Is he new to English, maybe? Or is he just drunk?
Either way, this is a great read, especially the part where Penny Arcade get involved. The way this is spreading like wildfire across the internet with media outlets (that Christoforo is apparently buddies with) picking up on it, though, I think Christoforo will learn an important lesson about calling customers ‘bitch.’
[UPDATE:] News of Ocean Marketing's misdeeds has erupted on twitter, with Scott Lowe, the executive editor of IGN Tech, tweeting some corrections to Christoforo.
Chistoforo took to the Ocean Marketing twitter account to reply with his usual decorum and grace.
