Monster Hunter Wilds: Affinity Explained

March 26, 2025 by Matt Villei

It’s critical that you understand this stat.

Understanding all the different weapon stats in Monster Hunter Wilds is an important part of building a perfect loadout and finding the right weapon. While many stats like the Attack number and different elemental effects are pretty straightforward, the Affinity stat doesn’t immediately explain itself. This is arguably the most important stat that a weapon has, so it is paramount that players understand what this percentage means. Luckily, I can break down what this stat means for anyone unsure of what exactly it means. This guide will explain to players how the Affinity system works in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Affinity Explained in Monster Hunter Wilds

Affinity is a special stat that can be found for every weapon in the game. This stat comes in the form of a percentage that represents the weapon’s critical strike chance. This means that the higher a weapon’s Affinity percentage is, the more likely you will get crit hits when attacking with that weapon. Some weapons, however, do have Negative Affinity. This means that you have a percent chance to do an attack that deals only 75% of the weapon’s base damage.

Affinity can be increased by using Skills such as Critical Eye and Maximum Might, which buff the stat. There is also a unique situation where you can get a buff to your Affinity in the form of the Frenzy Status Ailment. If you’re able to overcome the Frenzy, you will get a buff to your Affinity for a short time.

It is important to note that Affinity is tied to physical damage and not elemental damage. This means that a crit will increase the base damage of an attack while the elemental damage will simply be added onto the attack without receiving its own buff. You can get elemental damage to trigger crits by equipping the Critical Element Skill.

You now know how to perform an Offset Attack in Monster Hunter Wilds. Stay tuned to Gameranx for more news, updates, and guides for Monster Hunter Wilds as well as other great games in the future.
