Update: SOE will now be called Daybreak Game Company.
"This name embodies who we are as an organization, and is a nod to the passion and dedication of our employees and players. It is also representative of our vision to approach each new day as an opportunity to move gaming forward," the studio commented.
John Smedley, president of Daybreak, has already expressed his interest in making Xbox games.

Original Story: Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has split away from Sony and may create games for Xbox and mobile platforms in the future.
Columbus Nova, an investment management firm based in New York, bought out the developer for an undisclosed sum, GameSpot reports.
SOE commented:
"This means that effective immediately SOE will operate as an independent game development studio where we will continue to focus on creating exceptional online games for players around the world, and now as a multiplatform gaming company. Yes, that means PlayStation and Xbox, mobile, and more!"
While Sony owns PlayStation maker Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), SOE was traditionally a PC MMO maker with some projects such as Planetside 2 and H1Z1 in development for PC and PS4. It's unclear at this point whether SOE will change its name as a result of leaving its parent company.
