Battlefield 4 is just a little over a month away, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be learning new information about the changes to the core gameplay in the days leading up to release. DICE isn’t just recreating what we saw in Battlefield 3 on next-generation consoles, as changes to both the result of a knife kill and the reviving system have been revealed through the Official Battlefield Twitter account (via Reddit).
The first bit of news involves the melee combat. Contrary to what’s been seen in previous titles, players will not be in a revivable state after getting knifed. Unlike regular gunfire, the knife will end a soldier’s run without any chance of being picked up by a nearby ally. This makes the close-quarters encounters even more intense, allowing each and every swing of the blade to mean more than ever before.
How players are revived has been altered, too. A quick tap of the defibrillators to the chest of a downed player will bring that person back to half health, while charging the piece of equipment will allow for a full revive. This means that soldiers can go from simply looking at the sky, unable to move to being on their feet with a full load of health in just seconds.
Those interested in the current-generation Battlefield 4 can expect to pick up an Xbox 360 or PS3 copy Oct. 29. If you’d rather sit around and wait for what the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have to offer, look for those versions of the game to launch on each console’s respective debut.
