The names Brenda Brathwaite and Tom Hall may not sound foreign to anyone who grew up with PC games in their youth. For those not in the know, the two developers were individually responsible for the development of many classic PC games, including the Wizardry series, Jagged Alliance 2, Anachronox, Doom, and Commander Keen.
Now at their new indie studio Loot Drop, the two have teamed up to create what they’re tentatively calling the “Old School Role-Playing Game”.
They plan to develop an RPG in the vein of the old Wizardry games, in which the player will create a party of four characters, choosing from multiple races, professions and skills to traverse through a “richly detailed world, home to unique, dangerous, and sometimes crafty creatures who may be friend or foe.”
The point of the game will be to loot and plunder various dungeons, castles, and defeat hordes of creatures while gaining experience and levels, solving quests, aiding NPCs, and participating in strategic turn-based combat.
To develop the game, Loot Drop needs the help of fans of old school RPGs and new gamers alike to contribute to their Kickstarter, as the studio intends to fiercely maintain its independence. Should the developers meet their stretch goals, they’ll even develop the game as two separate titles for the price of one.
Considering the caliber of the developers involved, it’s safe to say that they’ve already earned my money. They’ve even garnered the support and endorsements of WOW designer Rob Pardo, Notch, and Chris Avellone.
Help them out here.
