In a move that should surprise no one, Ubisoft is now offering a "season pass" for Assassin's Creed 3. For the three people that doesn't know what a season pass is, it's basically paying for a game's post-launch DLC upfront but with a discount in doing so.
This news was revealed in this week's PlayStation Store Update, where PlayStation Digital Platforms community manager Kristine Steimer confirms it.
The season pass will come bundled with the "Gold Edition" of Assassin's Creed 3, which will cost $89.99. Additionally, players can also buy Assassin's Creed 3 Gold Edition + AC3: Liberation for $119.99. For those who don't want to buy the Gold Edition right away, the season pass will also be sold separately after launch.

Currently, there's no indication of what's included in the season pass or how many expansions will be included for the extra $30 price tag.
I think it's safe to say that most "big" games these days with a meaty single-player component will be getting the season pass treatment. Not that I'm complaning, mind you, as it's a win-win for both publishers and fans alike. Publishers get money upfront, while fans can get the DLCs at a discounted price.
Are you okay with the season pass and how it's spreading out to most game franchises or should people have a wait-and-see attitude first plunking down that extra cash?
Assassin's Creed 3 will be out on October 30 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
