Games aren't made for everyone, right? Generally publishers aim for the young male crowd and tend to leave out other types of gamers in the long run. Bioware has been successful with including homosexuality in its games and other developers have tried to steer away from sexual tropes. Which company though has tried to make games accessible to gamers who can't even hold a controller in their hands?
In comes The Able Gamers Foundation and their newfound arcade in Washington DC. Said arcade will be the first ever to be suited for those gamers who have handicaps. The venue opens up on October 10th at the public library Main MLK branch, where a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at noon EST.
Steve Spohn, Editor in Chief at The Able Gamers Foundation called this grand opening a "tremendous victory".
This is really one of the finest days in the history of the organization. This is a tremendous victory for disabled gamers everywhere. But moreover, it's a victory for everyone who has ever worked with, contributed to, and especially donated to the foundation. We would like to thank each and every one who has helped and will continue to help the disabled gamer community.
It is truly a noble thing that these people have done for the community. Gamers everywhere should be able to enjoy the latest games. Console, publishing, and developing companies alike should try to make their games accessible to those who can not wield a controller like a person with fully functioning limbs. Who knows, maybe someone will Kickstart some peripherals for consoles to help disabled gamers play games like Skyrim and Uncharted 3.
