Sony recently announced their newest PS3 model, which I believe was a superfluous move on their part. Sony on the other hand is laughing all the way to the bank despite what I think.
According to MCVUK sales for Playstation 3's have gone up by 138%. The new model accumulated 37% of all of those Playstation 3 sales, and it only just came out in the UK last Friday, gaining those numbers in only a couple of days. Quite impressive if you ask me.
Sony is also going to be releasing a 12 GB model, which will be competing with the lower end 4 GB XBOX 360 model. It could also be a problem for the Wii-U which is launching next month.
Recently Sony UK head Fergal Gara claimed that he's not worried about the Wii U, and now we see that the man had good reason. If sales keep up for the PS3, the Wii U may struggle after the Holiday season especially since most outlets don't have any pre-orders left for Nintendo's new console.
Could this new slim model be a “game changer” for Sony? So far it's looking like it just may, but no one knows the future, except those speculators and their Deloreans. Yep.
