While Tecmo Koei's Dead or Alive franchise has never been subtle about its oversexualization of characters — particularly, the females, it seems that might not be enough for some fans…yep, you read that right.
In an interview with Gamasutra, Dead or Alive 5 director Yohei Shimbori claims that they were getting feedback from the "overseas offices to tone down the sexuality — to tone down the sexiness of the game and the characters;" but once feedback from fans playing Dead or Alive 5's demo (included with Ninja Gaiden 3) came trickling in, "those plans changed."
We actually got a lot of feedback from people who were playing it, saying, 'We want bigger breasts. Make the characters more like that.' That was kind of surprising.
Yes, because that's what the game needs — bigger breasts and more sexualization of its female fighters and not more features or gameplay refinements.
Sarcasm aside, Shimbori states that there's definitely room for having sexualized aspects, and added, "If you have a solid fighting game system there, there's nothing wrong with having beautiful characters as a layer on top of that — that's another layer of entertainment that there's a need for. If there wasn't a need for it, people wouldn't have responded to the alpha demo like they did, and send us feedback."
Well, there you have it. If you're a Dead or Alive player, you can still expect all that jiggling action to continue. Heck, if fans had their way, it would be even more jiggly. Somewhere, a fighting game is weeping and you know why.
Dead or Alive 5 is already out at retail for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
