Clint Hocking, creative lead for Far Cry 2 (and new elf in Santa’s Workshop, aka Valve), recently wrote in a feature for Edge Magazine that Minecraft “is the most important game of the decade.”
Minecraft is awesome because of its infinite scale, and the simplicity of its core. So many modern fantasy blockbusters spend millions of dollars on cutscenes and convoluted, character-generating training levels in fully realised 3D environments with a story that sets you up as a lowly miner or a simple farmer who has heard the call to adventure. Minecraft hands you a pick and a hoe and tells you quite plainly on that first night, “adventure is everywhereâ€.
In the spirit of this, Minecraft Forum user TDWP_FTW brings us Biomes O’ Plenty, a new mod which adds 33 new biomes, new crafting recipes and a host of new objects to the game. With environments ranging from marshland to glaciers and mystic forests to Creeper-infested deadlands, the mod shows an impressive array of both real and fanciful landscapes with considerable attention to detail. It’s all in the name of exploration, and dang, is it beautiful.
You can download the mod for yourself here. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with other biome mods, but do you really need other biome mods after this one?
