Ah, 100% no frills video game trailers: I love you! No misleading CGI that makes us forget that a game doesn't look very good, or that we don't know how a game actually plays. This trailer, on the other hand, is gameplay-only. The footage is exactly what you will find yourself doing in Octodad: Dadliest Catch, the follow up to Young Horses' quirky Octodad.
Mind, the person playing is VERY, VERY GOOD at Octodad: they're a developer! When you're playing, you're going to have a lot more trouble doing basic things. That's where the fun comes in. Octodad just can't do things with as much ease and finnese as us humans can. Thanks, opposable thumbs and lack of tentacles.
You play as an octopus doing his darnest to be a good father and husband…only his family can't find out that you're an octopus! The trick with that is that the controls are rather unconventional, making simple actions become huge undertakings where you toss around all sorts of items and make huge messes. Except you can't be too reckless, else they'll suspect something. Delicious, delicious tension. I've played a demo of the game–part of what is in the video above, actually–and can confirm that this is a blast to play.
Unfortunately the game is still a ways off from release, but for now, you can play the first title for free! Check it.
