Xbox could be looking at a massive influx of new games, but not from where you expect.
At the Game Developers Conference yesterday, Microsoft unveiled the Xbox Live Creators Program which allows anyone to create a universal windows platform game and publish it on the Xbox One and Windows 10 Store. These games can easily support Xbox Live features (live-sign-in, leader-boards, stats, but not achievements).
“Their title can see exposure to every Xbox One owner across the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio this holiday, as well as hundreds of millions of Windows 10 PCs, and millions of folks using the Xbox app on mobile platforms,” explained Chris Charla, director of Microsoft’s independent developer program, ID@Xbox.
The Creators Program is releasing as a limited preview that’s only available to a few developers. More details will are currently available through Microsoft’s website, along with the SDK.
Submissions for publishing games will supposedly be opening to everyone “soon.”
