Sony announced at the Tokyo Game Show that PlayStation Mobile was coming to "a number of PlayStation-Certified devices and PlayStation Vita" on October 3rd. Specifically, the brands that are certified so far are Sony, HTC, ASUS Tek, WikiPad, Fujitsu, and Sharp.
Senior Director of PlayStation Digital Platforms Jack Buser explained that PlayStation Mobile is a brand new platform that offers "Playstation-like experiences" on a variety of mobile devices. Ok, sounds good in theory, you might be thinking, but what are the games? Well, they haven't released info on specific game titles yet but claim that they will have 30 titles available when it launches. So far they have just listed specific genres, like "Adventure, Action, Puzzle, Sports, and Simulation." The games will range from $2 to $20 and that more details will come on exactly where to download these games in the future.
In what might be even more important news for some, Sony is opening up the PlayStation Mobile SDK for $99 a year for the licensing fee. This opens up the opportunity to become a PlayStation developer for indie teams and individuals as well as big gaming companies.
Buser is also asking that people that want to suggest features for the platform get their ideas into the PlayStation Blog Share as they use it to "guide development".
What do you think? If you don't already play mobile games, would this convince you to try?
