It’s a little known fact that I used to run a fansite for Battle Realms when I was a teenager umpteen decades ago (or in actuality, 10 years ago) so it’s kind of a nice surprise to see the game finally getting some of the love it should’ve gotten when it was first released through its re-release on Good Old Games today.
The newly repackaged Battle Realms includes the original game in addition to the Winter of the Wolf expansion pack which sees players taking on the role of the Wolf and Lotus clans in addition to the regular campaign.
Heavily influenced by Japanese samurai movies, Battle Realms is a bonafide real-time strategy game with an interesting “rock-paper-scissors” style mechanic, in which various units can counter each other with piercing, slashing, blunt, explosive, magical and fire damage.
It’s a pretty good game, so give it a go if you're hankering for some fun. Grab it here.
