We know you've been hankering for more Ace Attorney 5 details, so here's a brand new gameplay and story trailer straight from Tokyo Game Show. You'll want to switch on Youtube Annotations for the English subtitles.
The trailer also gives us a (Japanese) name for Phoenix Wright's new partner, Kidzuki Kokone, and a few more details for how the emotion mechanic is supposed to work, by detecting sudden shifts in a witness's mood during cross-examination. Interesting! It isn't clear whether Kokone is an empath or it's all down to the fancy new holographic vidscreens the courtroom is seen sporting (no doubt taking a cue from the recent film adaptation), but either way it's a particular mechanic the series hasn't delved into before.
The trailer also hints at the dystopian themes which always lay at the heart of the series but Takashi Miike's film adaptation (when is that getting a Stateside release?!) really brought to the fore. Are we about to see a darker, edgier, more badass Phoenix Wright? That baby blue waistcoat says yes.
