Microsoft has made a pretty impressive acquisition on behalf of Xbox: former CBS exec Nancy Tellem to oversee the creation of original entertainment content for Xbox Live. Starting at CBS in 1997, Tellem oversaw daytime, prime-time, late night and Saturday morning programming for CBS and was ranked #32 in Forbes’ 2008 list of The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women.
The acquisition certainly proves that whatever Microsoft is planning for Xbox Live, they're serious about it. So what exactly will Tellem be doing? According to Microsoft she will “develop interactive and linear content for Xbox and other devices.” She will also “help spearhead the company’s efforts to turn Xbox into a destination where consumers can enjoy all their entertainment in one place.”
As for Tellem's goals for Xbox Live, she has stated that she is "excited to be a part of the continued evolution of Xbox from a gaming console to the hub of every household’s entertainment experience" and plans to collaborate with the Xbox community “to develop unique, compelling storytelling experiences for the Xbox brand.”
What do you think of Microsoft's goals to turn the Xbox into one central hub? Is this a good thing or should we keep our gaming separate from other aspects of entertainment?
