Could Microsoft, after all these years, be making a new Killer Instinct franchise? While no additional details has been shared, Microsoft has confirmed that they have renewed Killer Instinct's trademark and that's enough to send me into a whirlwind of assumptions.
Here's the official statement released by Microsoft (via PlayXBLA):
Our legal eagles have authorized us to say: 'We have either renewed or refiled a trademark application in various jurisdictions
For those who are too young to remember, Killer Instinct was an arcade fighting game made by Rare in the 90s. This was the time when Rare was still with Nintendo and they were releasing one top-notch game after another. Not saying they suck now, but, well, I'll let their current track record speak for itself.
So. does this mean a new Killer Instinct game is on the way? As much as I would love to see that, I'd wager and say this is for an HD remake of some sort. That might be for the best, to be honest, as I don't want the Rare of today to mess with one of the 90s most-cherished properties.
Oh, and before you go out and YouTube Killer Instinct combo videos, I don't think I can write this post without menti — Co-co-combo Breaker! Yeah, I went there.
Does anyone still remember this? What was your highest combo total back then?
