Katamari Damacy was created by Keita Takahashi for Namco Bandai for the PlayStation 2, and quickly became one of the most popular games on the console, eventually seeing ports and releases for a variety of other platforms.
The game’s plot is about a tiny Prince who sets out on a mission to appease his dad, the King of All Cosmos, by rolling a magical adhesive ball to collect objects in the surrounding environment, making it grow bigger and bigger as it collects more items. The ball is then sent into the cosmos to become a new star.
Katamari will now be coming to comic book form with the help of ShiftyLook. Raynato Castro and Alex Culang, the duo currently responsible for the on-going webcomic series Buttersafe, will be doing the Katamari webcomic.
Fans of the series can expect to read the Katamari webcomic on September 17. That’s when the first strip goes up. It’ll be released twice a week with installments every Monday and Wednesday.
For those interested in meeting them in person, the two creators will be present at the New York Comic Con next month.
