Maybe I'm late to the party here but when gamers talk about Metro 2033, they don't seem to do so with reference to the 2002 novel that served as its foundation. Penned by Russian SF novelist Dmitri Glukhovsky, Metro 2033 has gone on to spawn a long-lived print series in addition to a couple of games and has now been picked up for a film adaptation by MGM.
Now, it might be a good thing if the film adaptation takes the book as its source, because we all know how game movies tend to come out. Also, keep in mind that plenty of films never go beyond the preproduction stage (Hollywood being more notorious for vaporware than even the tech industry), so this might vanish into rumor as quickly as it appeared.
Still, here's what we know at the moment. Mark Johnson, whose credits include The Chronicles of Narnia and (way more importantly) Galaxy Quest, is set to produce, and F. Scott Frazier has been fingered for the screenplay. Frazier's writing credits include, uh… Tetris Evolution? Hot Wheels: Stunt Track Challenge? Wait, those aren't even writing credits, those are just some of his roles as a QA tester. Maybe we have a right to be concerned after all. At the very least, this leans toward a Metro 2033 that does take cues from the game.
Best case scenario, we've got the wrong guy. We'll keep you posted.
