A new patch preparing World of Warcraft for the impending release of the Mists of Pandaria expansion pack has brought a significant number of changes to the existing game.
Among the new features added in the patch are challenge modes to old, preexisting dungeons. If you’re playing World of Warcraft, there’s a good chance that you’ve run through most of the game’s dungeons numerous times. The new challenge modes will give you a new reason to re-run each of them.
How do they work? Well, when you normally enter a dungeon—be it with a pre-built team or with complete strangers through the party finder—you’ll be equipped with your own, hard-earned gear to take on the monsters ahead. In challenge mode, you and the rest of the members in your party will be equipped with premade equipment, so each team taking the challenge will have an even footing in the dungeon.
Once you’ve assembled your team and make your way into the dungeon, you’ll be tasked with dispatching the bosses contained within in a set amount of time. Your team can earn gold, silver, or bronze medals based on your performance—or how fast it takes for you to kill the bosses in the dungeon.
Challenge mode may seem like a bit much for some players, but Blizzard’s banking on the die-hards among you to get a kick out of it.
