Medal of Honor Warfighter is a game that prides itself by offering “real world combat scenarios” and realism in general. It may not necessarily be the realistic shooter fans of games like Arma and Rainbow Six are hoping to play, but the action certainly doesn’t come in short supply.
Danger Close and Electronic Arts have announced a partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment to create a tie-in for the Osama bin Laden hunt movie Zero Dark Thirty. For the game developers’ part, they’ll be releasing a multiplayer map pack for Warfighter on December 17 to tie-in with the movie’s premiere. Just like profits for the movie, a portion of the map pack’s sales will head straight to charities for military servicemen and women.
EA says that it will donate $1 for every copy of the Zero Dark Thirty map pack they sell for a total of $1 million through their Project Honor campaign.
Anyone who picks up the Medal of Honor Warfighter Limited Edition will gain free access to the Zero Dark Thirty DLC. Likewise, anyone who preorders the standard edition of the game will receive a free upgrade to the Limited Edition, and receive access to the Battlefield 4 beta taking place next year.
The Zero Dark Thirty map pack contains two new multiplayer maps set in real-world locations—the first of which takes place at Pakistan’s Darra Gun Market, and the second takes place in Chitral, Pakistan, a location where Osama bin Laden was believed to have been hiding out before moving to Abbottabad, where he was eventually located and killed.
In essence, Warfighter players will be able to take part in the manhunt that saw the death of the world’s most wanted terrorist.
Medal of Honor Warfighter is set for release on October 23 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. It’ll be out three days later in Europe.
