Insomniac Founder and CEO Shares His Secrets for Leading a Project to Success

September 7, 2012 by Lana Polansky

Ted Price talks to Gamasutra about keeping a team headed in the right direction.

Speaking to Gamasutra, Insomniac Founder and CEO Ted Price discusses his formula for success: namely, how to keep a team dedicated to a vision, how to keep the momentum of a project moving, and how to keep everyone involved on the same page.

Talking about his methodology, Price notes that after 18 years at Insomniac, he’s learned to do whatever “works for the individuals on the team.”

“Most of the time, though, we can rely on a few core principles. One is to figure out that one thing which makes our games stand out, and make sure that the team understands that all of our ideas need to support that one idea. We've acknowledged this at Insomniac. We aren't consistently successful at applying it. But as long as everyone is reminded frequently that it's important to stay true to that one thing that the game does best, it's much easier to build consensus without people's feelings being hurt if their idea isn't used in the game.”

Price goes onto explain how being at the top of the company responsible for Ratchet & Clank means communicating ideas effectively, bringing back those who have strayed from the main vision, and making sure not to become  complacent. Read it here.
