Naughty Dog put together a new video showcasing their upcoming game, The Last of Us, with over fifteen minutes of gameplay, for their recent presentation at Penny Arcade Expo.
The video was originally shown to the press at E3 2012, highlighting the game's narrative exploration through interactive prompts, and a large variety of environmental puzzles. In addition to that, the gameplay demo showcases the balance of power AI, as well as a few of the dynamic stealth elements that Joel and Ellie will have to make use of to survive in the post-apocalyptic wasteland.
In the video, the game's two protagonists Ellie and Joel make their way through the ruins of a city, which appears to be flooded with water and overgrown with plants, showing years of urban decay. They make their way into a rundown old hotel while engaging in world-building conversation with each other.
Shortly thereafter, they encounter some other survivors—scavengers, really—with ill intentions towards them. Armed with gun, Joel distracts the scavengers by throwing a bottle to make his way around them. He manages to take one of them hostage and chokes the guy out before escaping to another part of the hotel with Ellie.
It's not too long before they encounter even more bad guys and are forced to engage in combat. The fighting is intense and Joel is even off caught-guard by one of the bad guys, whom he counterattacks and turns into a human shield.
Things to note:
* Ellie provides Joel with situational awareness all throughout the sequence.
* Bad guys run away whenever Joel draws his firearm.
The Last of Us is a PlayStation 3 exclusive. It's expected to see release sometime in early 2013—assuming it isn't delayed.
