Anita Sarkeesian can't catch a break. Spotted earlier today by Gameranx staff was this Reddit gaming thread where many Redditors have congregated to provide ample criticism of the Tropes vs Women in Video Games project. The ire rises from the Kickstarter's promise to have delivered by August 2012–a time frame that has already passed. Worse–according to them anyway–is Anita's decision to conduct a survey, which is apparently indicative of her desire to have others do her work for her. That right there is the epitome of logic, eh?
Some in the thread are trying to rally others together to get her banned from Kickstarter and to nail her for fraud by reporting her. They of course are ignoring the massive influx of money that Anita got (158,922 to be exact) which prompted her to announce that the scope of the project had changed. Where before she only needed a few thousand to realize her vision, getting much more than what she asked for meant that what she is capable of delivering also changes. Originally, she wanted to make a short series of videos. Not anymore.
Evident here is the irrevocable and inexplanable hatred for a woman who wants to create progressive work. It's baffling to see others dislike her so much that they go out of their way to try to cause harm to her. What's the point? Who is she hurting that she needs to be shut down at all costs? Nobody.
So much energy has been spent in trying to destroy Anita, one cant help but feel concerned and appaled at 'gaming culture.' It is disgusting.
For now the project remains active. Thankfully.
