19-year-old Canadian artist Lindsay Aspen has been developing a formidable portfolio of Pokemon-inspired dresses for both formal and casual occasions. Apart from displaying no shortage of creativity in incorporating the little critters into her high fashion looks, many of Aspen’s designs look actually quite wearable.
I think my favorite part about a number of these sketches is how easily they would translate to other body types beyond the size zero models we usually see pounding the runway. Gamers come in all shapes and sizes and who wouldn’t want to rock this Squirtle-inspired kimono? Give or take a few of those platform shoes, of course.
With game-themed parties and weddings being all the rage nowadays, it wouldn’t be at all a stretch to find a few of these designs making it off the sketchpad into the real world someday. As a matter of fact, a quick search reveals other blogs on a similar wavelength, such as this tumblr devoted to Pokemon-inspired ready-to-wear looks, and this gallery of fashion sketches from deviantArt artist CdCblanc. I daresay I find Miss Aspen’s work the most versatile, however. Perhaps she takes commissions?
