If you haven't played Metal Gear Solid 3, you are missing out on one of the most singular female characters in gaming's history. The mentor to Big Boss and, thus, the symbolic grandmother of the franchise's leading man Solid Snake, The Boss is one of the most important characters in the entire mythology of Metal Gear, and she kicks plenty of ass too.
So it should come as no surprise that when series creator Hideo Kojima remarked at today's Metal Gear panel at PAX Prime that he would "really love" to develop a Metal Gear title featuring The Boss in a starring role, he was met with enthusiastic applause from the panel's audience. Says Eurogamer:
The Boss is often touted as being one of the strongest female characters in gaming, and it would be nice to see a "hardcore" game star a middle-aged woman. […] [Kojima] said if he makes this, it will be part of the main series and not a spin-off ala the upcoming Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.
Devoted fans of the franchise will no doubt take these optimistic remarks with a grain of salt, as the idea of a Boss-driven Metal Gear has been floated before. But it's nice to know it's still on the Metal Gear mastermind's, er, mind.
