A new host of Grand Theft Auto 5 rumors has surfaced on 4chan's videogame or /v/ forums with rich details about the upcoming game.
The purported leaker posted the information eleven months ago, but some of what he said appears to be true given the release of last week's screenshots (which we dissected here) and as such, it's getting a new round of attention. He was otherwise ignored when he first posted the details last year.
Story and Setting Details
The leaker claims that the game's protagonist a Hispanic man named Adrian. This doesn't really line up with the old white guy we saw in the original trailer, but it makes sense if you look at the newly released screenshots of the Hispanic-looking character.
San Andreas includes all the same cities from GTA: San Andreas, but they'll be a lot bigger and much more detailed.
The game starts out in Los Santos and Adrian is in his rival's turf, the Vamos Los Aztecas, after getting beaten and robbed.
The game takes place in the year 2012, and one of the game's running themes is the Mayan end of the world, which is parodied throughout the game.
The main theme in GTA 5 revolves around money. The state of the real world economy will factor heavily into the game, but the game itself will revolve around the drug trade—which is blooming in San Andreas—and the surrounding War on Drugs. Your character's family background ties into the whole thing.
The game's storyline is set after the events of Grand Theft Auto 4 and its expansion packs. Niko Bellic and other characters are referred to in the story. It is unclear if Niko is still alive.
Gameplay Features, Tech
Gang turf wars will be making a return in GTA 5. There will be general gangs as well as a variety of different sets such as the 57 Ballas and the Eastside Azteca, all of whom are members of larger gangs. Each gang has their own graffiti, and players will have the ability to tag the environment with custom graffiti.
There is a cover system for combat, which works similar to Max Payne 3's.
Car modding is back, including lowriding.
There are nine radio stations featuring a wide selection of music, including the old and new.
There are more moral decisions to be made in GTA 5, with much more impact on the story than GTA 4. According to the leaker, there are a total of 4 unique endings—2 good, and 2 bad. These endings depend on your actions throughout the game.
If your protagonist dies at the end, you'll be able to take on the role of the protagonist's brother to play in free-roam mode.
Girlfriends are back.
And so are GTA 4's fun cheats.
There are parachutes in GTA 5. (Note: this leak was made long before the release of the recent screenshot which revealed the existence of parachutes in the game)
The military makes a comeback as the 6-Star wanted level, but they'll be referred to as the National Guard this time around.
Multiplayer is in, and includes a co-op story as well as a 32-player competitive mode for consoles and a 64-player competitive mode for PCs.
The PC version is being ported by Rockstar Leeds and will be released at the same time as the console versions. It is said to be as well optimized as Max Payne 3.
As with all rumors, I'd suggest taking it with a liberal helping of salt.
