Deep Silver has announced the first details about Sacred 3, the next installment in the Sacred franchise of action RPGs.
Sacred 3 is set in the world of Ancaria, home to the first two games, and puts players at odds against Zane Ashen, tyrant of the Ashen Empire. Zane Ashen will stop at nothing to attain the Heart of Ancaria, an ancient artifact that will decide the fate of the world, and it's up to the players to stop him.
Up to four players can band together against the Ashen Empire in what the developers refer to as a "unique and engaging co-op mode" in which players must fight enemies as well as compete between themselves in friendly rivalry. Players will be able to match up against their friends in their use of skills and attain a variety of accomplishments in battle.
Players will be able to choose between several character classes, two of which have been revealed: the Safiri Warrior, and the Ancarian Lancer. Each class will come equipped with a unique skill set, which is divided between Combat Arts, perks, and equipment.
Like its predecessors, Sacred 3 will be an open-ended world offering a large variety of locations for players to visit, including locations well known to fans of the series like Castle Braverock.
The action RPG is currently in development at Keen Games and is set for release on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in 2013. Deep Silver is also planning to release Sacred Citadel, a side-scrolling brawler and prelude to Sacred 3 on PSN, Steam and XBLA.
