Phishers have quickly set their eyes on the Guild Wars 2 community, and the hacking waves are already being felt. The speed with which these unsavory characters have descended on Guild Wars 2 was lightning fast. The MMORPG was released yesterday, August 28, but the scam emails have already been making their way around the internet.
Players are receiving emails suggesting that someone has requested a password change on their associated account. If this wasn't your doing, the best course of action is to follow ArenaNet's instructions – do nothing.
Other attempts at information extraction are occurring through phishing emails asking for account information. As per usual run-of-the-mill common sense, don't go giving out your passwords, Social Security number, or name of your first pet to random folks. If you receive an email asking for your information, just ignore it.
A way to circumvent these issues and isolate the phishing attempts is to create a dedicated Guild Wars 2 email. Since your log-in name has to be an email address, making a separate one will keep the situation contained.
