Sleeping Dogs has claimed the hearts of PC gamers everywhere thanks to its solid port, which—in contrast to many other ports—offers a wide range of graphics options, performance optimizations, and high resolution textures worthy of a natively PC game.
United Front Games’ Jeff O’Connell attributes the game’s success on the PC to the resources provided to the developers by its publisher, Square Enix, which greenlighted additional resources for the company to work on a dedicated version of the game for the PC.
Speaking to the PA Report, O’Connell says that the studio had plans to bring the game to the PC during the early stages of its development.
“Very early on in development, we wanted to create a PC-specific version. We always had that planned. When the game changed hands from Activision to Square Enix, Square was incredibly supportive of the PC version and actually wanted us to do more with it,” he said.
“It was at that point that we began to focus more resources on the PC version and it became what it is.”
Thanks to the support from Square Enix, United Front was able to set up dedicated resources for the game’s development on the PC. The developer says that markets like those in Germany are so heavily PC-centric that it only made sense to create a dedicated version of the game on the PC.
