The future of Mega Man has been revealed, and it isn't at all what you're hoping for.
Capcom have announced Rockman XOver (Crossover, in case that X doesn't quite scan), a social RPG set in the Mega Man world and soon to be released on iOS. No word on price or gameplay as of yet, but if you're Japanese you'll be able to get into the game in December of this year.
The story sounds… Well, I'll let you make your own decision.
"It’s a world where all the worlds of Rockman have crossed over. The gulf of space-time has been closed thanks to the efforts of Dr. Wily, Sigma and other villains to Rockman and co.! Dr Light and Dr. Cossack work together in creating a new robot to oppose this crisis. A production model, this robot uses “battle memory” that has been scattered over the world, and possesses infinite potential to transform and increase his power. The player battles evil as this new type robot. Create your own Rockman, and battle with others to protect peace!"
No doubt this is going to be hugely successful (the social RPG genre is booming, especially out east) but it's definitely not what long time Rockman/Mega Man fans will want and some will definitely question why this is being made and not the cancelled Mega Man Legends 3.
