Mass Effect: Andromeda Devs Are Trying to Balance Planet Sizes In-Game

December 21, 2016 by Kris Kittie

Changes to the romance system were also touched on in the interview with Official PlayStation Magazine.

BioWare continues to search for the right “balance” when it comes to the planet sizes in Mass Effect: Andromeda. This information came from one of the game’s producers, Michael Gamble during an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine in the UK outlet’s Christmas 2016 issue. (Via PowerUpGaming).

As far as the scope and size of the worlds within the game are concerned, Gable noted that the studio intends to create “experiences that have the right density and amount of content,” explaining further that a planet within the game that may currently take 50 minutes to drive across could proceed to change to either 30 or 60 minutes in several months’ time over the course of development. It is very important to BioWare to ensure proper scale of the worlds in Mass Effect: Andromeda.

“We’re trying to see where the limits are, and we don’t want to make something too small where there’s not enough exploration, but we also don’t want to make it too big where it’s empty and lifeless. We want to find that balance.” Gable continued.

However, Gamble also discussed changes that would be implemented to the game’s romance system in addition to planet size. According to the BioWare producer, the studio is going to ensure that Andromeda‘s relationships progress “as naturally as possible” in the game, by providing players with “conversations [that have] different levels of tone and different levels of choice in the responses.”

Mass Effect: Andromeda is set to launch sometime in Q1 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
