In what comes as a surprise announcement from Croatian studio Croteam, the first Serious Sam game is being released on Steam as a VR title. Serious Sam: The First Encounter made its debut in 2001 and was remastered in 2009. Now the VR version is redefining the way you play, much like the virtual reality adaptation of Serious Sam: The Last Hope.
The game will come with VR specific features, such as exploring the levels using trackpad movement, and using the in-built teleportation system to avoid enemies. Serious Sam VR: The First Encounter is currently in early access and will support up to 16 players in co-op and versus multiplayer modes, and includes a singleplayer mode comprised of 15 levels set in Egypt.
To celebrate the early access launch, a new trailer showcasing the action-heavy gameplay has been unveiled.
Players who own Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope are entitled to receive a 20% discount on The First Encounter. The game is compatible with both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Serious Sam: The First Encounter is currently available on Steam for $35.99 USD until December 28.
