Could PopCap be moving its casual game hit Plants vs. Zombies into the crowded multiplayer FPS genre? According to what a Canadian industry source with ties to EA has told Kotaku, that might be the case.
The anonymous source states that a small team at EA's Burnaby campus is working on a Plants vs. Zombies game that's a "multiplayer-oriented first-person shooter (FPS)" for consoles.
Yep, it's as crazy as it sounds. The alleged team working on this is mostly composed of former members of EA's Black Box studio (Skate, Need for Speed) and that this rumored Plants vs. Zombies FPS is "in the vein of Team Fortress 2."
The project itself is supposedly in its infancy. So much so, that it won't even be submitted for PopCap's final approval until later this month.
Now, before you cringe or jump for joy, keep in mind that this is still very much a rumor and PopCap has refused to comment on its validity.
So, would you buy a Plants vs. Zombies FPS? Truth be told, I'm just curious as to how it will even work.
