Developer 3D Attack wants us to get nostalgic with them with their new Kickstarter project, The Other Brothers, a "family fun adventure game" being developed for iOS, Android, Mac and PC.
The Other Brothers is a simple damsel-in-distress sidescroller featuring two grease-stained denim coverall-clad mechanic brothers, Joe and Jim, as they jump, collect and outrun the clock to save Tavy, a ginger-haired young beauty kidnapped by Mafia thugs.
While the Super Mario tongue-in-cheek references are abundant and difficult to miss if you know anything about the series, The Other Brothers promises a loving homage to the pixel art aesthetic as well as a mix of nostalgic classic mechanics with a mix of new and interesting ideas.
Says the page,
“Technology today allows us to do things we couldn't do in the past, so why not incorporate some "fresh/modern" ideas. The Other Brothers is an homage to the golden era of gaming, and yet stands on it's own feet due to strong visuals and game play. Making a retro game using Pixel Art is a style choice. It's an art form. It's an experience we were captured away with in our young years and want to bring back to you and your family.”
While the Kickstarter has only met just over $7,200, it still has 29 days to reach its $50,000 goal.
