"It will be covered in the media for all eternity," the trailer jokes.
This is Peter Molydeux's spoof advertisement for Peter Molyneux's Curiosity, the enigmatic MMO set to launch on August 22.
Molydeux has made something of a career for himself parodying the lofty and sometimes untenable ideas that emerge from Molyneux's head, and this is no exception. The trailer sardonically pokes fun at the main conceit of the upcoming game, asking us the question we ourselves are begging to have answered: What is in the box?
Turning the gravity of Molyneux's newest idea on its head (almost literally, considering the trailer pans the solar system), the trailer mocks the premise of Curiosity, which is that players chip away at a virtual block until one lucky player chips away at the last piece, and is thus rewarded with the box's mystery item. This becomes more pertinent in the second, DLC, stage, where players who have upgraded their weapons may be looking to get a return on their investment.
Molydeux has long parodied the designer, and is in fact one of the reasons Molyneux left Microsoft (out of nothing but sheer admiration.)
