One of the few marketing ploys that I both love and hate are the "unboxing" of games and its special editions. I like that I get to see the actual contents of a game's special edition, but it's also annoying to see a boxed game being opened and you have to wait a few more months just to get your hands on it.
Ubisoft does just this with the unboxing video of Assassin's Creed III's "Freedom Edition." The special bundle will contain a "secret" notebook of George Washington, exclusive in-game content and the piece de resistance — a Connor figurine complete with retractable wristblade and a tomahawk!
In addition to the items listed, the game itself will be housed in a special steelcase that has the front art drawn by the legendary Alex Ross (Kingdom Come). Of course, all of these won't fit in a standard game case, so the packaging is also specially designed.
Needless to say, if you have the dough, I suggest picking this up as the figurine alone looks to be one snazzy piece of work.
Assassin's Creed III is scheduled for release on October 30 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
