While this might be an unfair assessment, some people are speculating that the reason Konami's Castlevania reboot — Lords of Shadow — did so well is because of Hideo Kojima's involvement.
Kojima, famed game director and the brains behind the massively-successful Metal Gear Solid franchise lent his staff Kojima Productions in helping Mercury Steam develop the reboot.
Well. for better or worse, that won't be the case in the two upcoming Lords of Shadow sequels.
David Cox, head of game development at Konami EU and producer of the Lords of Shadow franchise, has revealed that Kojima and his team won't be lending a hand at all in the development of Lords of Shadow 2 and the 3DS' Mirror of Fate.
For reference, the last Mercury Steam game before Lords of Shadow was Clive Barker's Jericho (2007). Needless to say, it didn't fare nearly as well as Lords of Shadow.
Of course, we don't exactly know how big or small Kojima Productions' role in developing Lords of Shadow 1. So there's a very good chance we won't notice that they're not helping out at all…either that or it could also turn up to be a mess without a seasoned studio overlooking them.
Is this a cause for concern for you or is this not as important?
