A German magazine, Computer Bild Spiele, is reporting that Ubisoft has refused to give it a review copy of Assassin’s Creed 2 unless they return the favour by giving the game at least a ‘sehr gut,’ or an ‘A‘ grade, in other words.
The cover of its current issue reads, “Assassin’s Creed 2 scandal! Publisher wanted us to guarantee a score of ‘sehr gut.'”
If legit, it looks like the mag declined to give in. Its review will instead be published a month later than planned, without unwanted input from the publisher.
In the web-preview of their current issue, the german publication wrote:
“Our reviews are tough, but fair. We will not give up our independent scores for the sake of a timely review. This holds true for ‘Assassin’s Creed 2’.
“The publisher asked us to guarantee the score ‘sehr gut’, otherwise we would not receive a review copy, thus we will publish our review in next month’s issue. We’d be more than glad to give the game a ‘sehr gut’, but only if it deserves it.”
Scandalous or what, Assassin’s Creed 2 so far has been well received by the gaming community and such a move by the so called “business people” at Ubisoft is uncalled for.
