Chalk Radical Entertainment as another casualty of the "HD era" of gaming.
Activision has confirmed that the studio behind games such as the Prototype franchise, Scarface: The World is Yours, The Simpsons: Hit & Run and more, is being closed down.
An Activision spokesperson released the following statement regarding the studio's closure.
Radical is a very talented studio and has been a great partner to Activision. Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience.
Following an exploration of a wide range of options, it was determined that closing Radical Entertainment as a creative entity was the only option.
However, this decision doesn't mean that everyone in the studio will be out of a job. The publisher has also revealed that "some" employees will remain working on Activision Publishng projects — though they did not give a specific number and what positions these will be.
Radical Entertainment was based in Vancouver and had an estimated 90 people working as full-time staff.
Needless to say, we hope everyone at Radical lands on their feet soon. Whether you like Radical's previous games or not, it's never fun to report on a studio closing and its people losing jobs.
